Mrs. Christy Young To All Instructors

I am excited to join the wonderful team of tutors and leaders at Eagle's Nest as the MS/HS Art tutor!

My husband and I have five kids, four of whom have graduated, and the youngest is in middle school. I attended Georgia Tech as a math major, with a job at an accounting firm lined up, but God showed me that my path and true love was education, so I changed direction and never looked back. During my 25 years of homeschooling, I've tutored middle school through college math - both privately and at co-ops - as well as MS/HS photography. I have a heart for young people and strive to pour into them love and positivity along with instruction.

I have always enjoyed looking at and learning about art - going to museums, taking an art history class that I adored, and especially learning about photography - from my first film camera to a dslr that is now nearly outperformed by the camera on my phone. However, until the last few years, I hadn't considered that I might enjoy creating other forms of art.

I had one of those middle school art classes where the teacher sat a pile of stuff in the middle of the table, and told us to draw it. No instruction. No joy. No bueno. I think even Picasso would have looked at my drawing and not understood it. So, that was that - I was apparently bad at art. Except, I had a building need to create and play with color, and so, in my 40s, I revisited that voice that said I was bad at art and told it that I didn't care. I was going to create anyway. Thereafter bloomed my love of watercolor. Now, I spend free moments training my brain to see things in shapes and my hand to draw them, so I can become more proficient at painting them.

My hope is to help my students have the confidence to create art by developing their skills while finding joy in the process.
